Designed by Howard Geiger
for Willis & Geiger and the old, immortal Abercrombie & Fitch which closed in
1976, the Australian was the top-of-the-line safari jacket and arguably the most
classic looking of all W&G, now defunct, which LOST WORLDS got into business
selling in the mid-1980s. A bush jacket that readily transports one to bygone
days of safari and exploration. And the movies. Great White Hunter and all that
tradition. Now LOST WORLDS revives this splendid design to our own matchless
quality, fit and function specifications.
The
Australian uses a full notched lapel rather than the shirt collar construction
of our other bush jackets (see links below). Attached belt, leather buckle
of course, easily buckled behind when not in use. Extra-robust construction: the
pockets (top load + hand warmer for the lower) rib-reinforced for
added strength. Pockets, chest and waist have large rectangular interior support
panels and greatly extended front facings (see above
shots). Bi-swing back with pleated lower skirt for easy, comfortable
sitting/bending. These military-derived features are designed for ultimate field
performance. Twisting, pulling, contorting, without fear of tearing. Closed seam
double needle construction. And, unaccidentally, very elegant, very proper, very
masculine for resort or travel wear to dinner in the evening, each Australian
beautifully sewn by a single skilled operator at our NYC factory. Style
indivisible from function.
